A New Garden Shed – Instant Gratification!

We have plenty of storage issues at our house so I’m always on the lookout for great ways to store stuff.  One of our biggest storage issues is outside the house. The lawn mower, snow blower, bikes, sporting equipment, all the lawn and garden items, patio cushions…it’s overwhelming. A one-car garage and a tiny garden shed just doesn’t cut it for all our outdoor tools and toys.

After years of trying to make it work, we finally decide to upgrade our garden shed. I fought the idea for a long time because I thought our existing shed was charming. But, it was falling apart, rotting and not worth fixing. Not to mention the door was too narrow to get the lawn mower or snowblower inside, the ceiling was low and in general it was just too small.

We looked at all the options.  We thought about having it repaired and a new door added, buying a new one at a big box store or having someone build one on-site for us. My only requirement was that it was cute, because we have a small backyard and it takes up a lot of space. However, we weren’t coming up with any great cost effective ideas.

Then, we went to the Minnesota State Fair and found it.  It was a garden shed that we could design ourselves, have it built off-site and delivered to our backyard—ready to use. Perfect! We even got a State Fair discount and free delivery.

It took about six weeks to get the shed built and delivered, but that was good because it gave us time to get rid of the old one. I hated to say good-bye, but it had gotten to be a love/hate relationship.

Then, in late fall the new shed arrived on a flat bed truck.

My husband had to remove fence panels in advance to make room for the truck.

In less than 30 minutes, the shed was backed into position…

We have double doors in the back which are great for getting things like the snowblower and lawn mower in place.  It’s only two feet longer, wider and taller, than the old one, but it makes a huge difference.

Plus, the window box will be great for planting flowers and the roof overhang will look sweet with a couple of hanging baskets.

Every detail was just as we had ordered.  Luckily it came just in time for us to load it up for winter.

So far we couldn’t be happier with it and I can’t wait for all the snow to melt so we can start landscaping and planting flowers.

Instant shed gratification!
